A voice drifts through water, air, and memory. Words are uttered, hesitate, and return again altered. A father swimming, whales rising for 
breath, a child suspended between floating and flying. Videotape images repeat, as if blocked 
from continuing. Searching for a way through 
fractured language, as if to try to let the 
memories breathe.

“There is a brief moment after you release your breath, before you inhale again, that small space between breaths. The breathturn. It is a moment when thought disappears and language, too, is briefly lost. The film we award the Balkan Short Dox to begins in this space, allowing itself to drift through memories evoked by the element of water. Its videotape images repeat, as if language itself prevents them from flowing as freely as they want to. The director’s poetic journey is one of searching for that flow and the result is a film about remembering feelings, the figure of the father, and the words we use to make sense of both. In the end, memory can finally breathe.”
